The New York Giants made waves this draft season, choosing to pass on a quarterback with their top pick, but they didn't stay out of the quarterback fray for long. By trading up with the Texans, they secured Jaxson Dart, a move that captured their commitment to the team’s future.
In a candid draft night video released by the Giants, General Manager Joe Schoen was caught on camera conversing with head coach Brian Daboll. The exchange – "you guys are convicted in him" – sparked chatter about a potential internal rift regarding their quarterback strategy. However, during his appearance on Up & Adams this week, Schoen cleared the air, negating any talk of division.
“It was an organizational decision,” affirmed Schoen. “Our draft process is a collaborative effort, built on detailed discussions and mutual belief. Jaxson Dart was consistently on our radar throughout the fall. We evaluated his live games and had extensive interactions with him during the Senior Bowl. Having a head coach with an offensive pedigree, particularly in quarterback development, seals the deal.”
Schoen emphasized the importance of alignment between the coaching staff and scouting department, stating that harmonized decision-making yields the best results. This unity was evident with the decision to draft Dart.
Only time will reveal the outcome of this strategic choice. The track record since Schoen and Daboll took over in 2022 stands at 18-32-1, but with Dart in the fold, the Giants are hopeful that their fortunes are set to change.
