Commanders General Manager Adam Peters has an ace up his sleeve, thanks to his former tenure with the 49ers. His time with the Niners paid dividends when targeting a key trade asset this offseason.
Wide receiver Deebo Samuel is no stranger to Peters, having joined the San Francisco squad in 2019—right when Peters was the vice president of player personnel. Speaking on The Pat McAfee Show, Peters revealed that trade conversations took root over a strategic lunch with 49ers GM John Lynch at the NFL Combine.
Peters went on to elaborate why Samuel is invaluable to the Commanders’ offensive ambitions. With quarterback Jayden Daniels known for his sharp, quick releases, Samuel will be perfectly positioned to make impactful plays, exploiting open spaces with ease.
Beyond the stats, Peters emphasizes Samuel’s intangible assets. "Knowing Deebo from when we drafted him to just the competitor he is—he is one of the best competitors on the field that I've ever seen in my life,” he praised. “He could put a team on his back and will you to win.”
The Commanders have already overachieved in 2024. With the stakes rising for 2025, Peters believes Samuel is crucial to exceed expectations once more.
With Samuel in the mix, the Commanders aim to replicate and build upon their previous success. The path forward may be challenging, but with high-caliber talent like Samuel onboard, they are ready to face any adversary.
