The winds of change continue to blow through Jacksonville as the Jaguars announce the release of wide receiver Gabe Davis on Wednesday morning.
This move comes almost a year after Davis joined the team, having signed a three-year deal as a free agent last offseason. However, with shifts in the coaching and management staff, it became apparent that Davis was no longer part of the Jaguars' future plans.
The roster shake-up in Jacksonville seems to be gaining momentum. This spring, the team had already parted ways with wide receiver Josh Reynolds and tight end Evan Engram. Additionally, the Jaguars traded away receiver Christian Kirk while bringing in Dyami Brown to strengthen their attack. Their bold strategy in the draft saw them trade up to secure Travis Hunter with the second overall pick.
During his stint with the Jaguars, Davis managed 20 receptions, totaling 239 yards and finding the end zone twice over 10 games. By designating him as a post-June 1 cut, the Jaguars aim to mitigate future salary cap implications, confining the dead money on their 2025 cap to a manageable $5.7 million.
This series of moves marks a fresh chapter for the Jaguars, as they reconfigure their roster with an eye on the future.
