As a defensive mastermind, Vic Fangio is no stranger to adapting on the fly. With the Philadelphia Eagles' offseason casting a shadow of uncertainty over their roster, Fangio remains unflustered. The salary cap is a relentless adversary for NFL teams, and Fangio's Eagles were not spared its sting this offseason.
Philadelphia's defensive exodus included high-impact players like Milton Williams, Josh Sweat, and cornerback Darius Slay, along with other key contributors. Losing talent always stings, and Fangio candidly acknowledged this on a recent podcast with Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, remarking, "It hurts to see good people leave. I’d have loved to keep all those guys, but in the NFL, the salary cap is real."
Despite these challenges, Fangio places immense faith in Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman. "In Howie we trust," Fangio noted enthusiastically. "This is his time of the year. He knows the holes we need to fill, having lost five starters and two top backups. But the plan is clear—get better."
Roseman has already started addressing the gaps, bringing in fresh faces, with more potential additions looming in the draft. Armed with 20 picks over the next two years, the strategic enhancement of their lineup is within reach. Fangio recognizes the depth of Roseman's task but remains optimistic. "He's done that in the offseason. We got some guys, and with the draft, we're poised to pick up good young pieces," he explained.
Even as new names emerge on the Eagles' defensive front, Fangio's presence remains a constant, providing not only experience but also the assurance of continuity. For the Eagles, a season built on strategic trust and adaptability lies ahead.
