Londynn Jones, a sharpshooting guard well-known in Los Angeles basketball circles, is making a high-profile move across town. The 5-foot-4 guard is bidding farewell to UCLA and will lace up for the rival University of Southern California Trojans next season.
Jones, who hails from Riverside, California, made her mark during her tenure at UCLA with her long-range prowess, capped by a memorable effort that contributed to the Bruins' run to the national semifinals against UConn earlier this month.
Jones played a critical role for the Bruins, starting in 31 out of 37 games. Last season, she earned an honorable mention as an All-Big Ten player, leading the Bruins in 3-pointers with 37 and averaging 8.5 points with 1.8 assists per game.
USC head coach Lindsay Gottlieb expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, noting, “I began recruiting Londynn back when she was in eighth grade. I see Londynn as a dynamic combo guard who can impact the game in so many ways: off the bounce, as a shot creator for herself and others and as a fierce defender.”
During her time at UCLA, Jones etched her name into the record books, setting the school’s single-season 3-point record with 87 during her sophomore year and earning a spot on the Pac-12 All-Freshman team.
Her move comes at a pivotal time for the USC Trojans, who are looking to make a deeper run in next year’s NCAA Tournament. The team recently reached the Elite Eight before star guard JuJu Watkins was sidelined with a season-ending knee injury. Jones’ experience and skill set might just be what USC needs to overcome such setbacks and push further.
