Hard Rock Stadium is stepping up its security game for the Club World Cup, learning from the turbulent scenes at last year's Copa America final. Nearly 120,000 fans have already flocked to the stadium in Miami, welcomed by increased checkpoints and a prominent police presence.

Last July, chaos erupted when a sea of ticketless soccer enthusiasts stormed the gates during a match between Argentina and Colombia, leading to a delay and distress among attendees as security grappled to manage the commotion.

Now, with the Club World Cup underway and the 2026 men's World Cup on the horizon, Miami officials are keenly focused on ensuring safety. Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office has implemented extensive measures to safeguard fans, players, and staff alike.

“We’ve put extensive measures in place to protect fans, players and staff,” Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz emphasized, outlining the commitment to security during this high-profile event.

A new regimen of three security checkpoints greets fans, enclosing the venue with a robust steel fencing perimeter, starting with a ticket verification at temporary gates sprawling across the parking lot. This is followed by a meticulous airport-style bag screening process under large tents.

These adjustments aim to prevent a repeat of the chaotic crush, where last year, overzealous fans were seen scaling barriers and even attempting to enter through air vents.

To add further reassurance, both visible and tactical police forces are actively patrolling the grounds. Officers donning face shields and protective gear are on alert, while strategic deployments focus on swiftly addressing any crowd unrest.

This fortified approach has already shown its effectiveness in recent cup fixtures, evidenced by the orderly proceedings of matches held thus far, including a thrilling 2-2 draw between Boca Juniors and Benfica. Boca fans have fervently supported their team, though no major incidents have been reported.
