In a move to accommodate the influx of fresh talent, the Kansas City Chiefs have made the tough decision to adjust their roster, releasing linebacker Blake Lynch and waiving defensive end BJ Thompson, as reported by Matt Derrick of Chiefs Digest.
Thompson, a fifth-round draft pick in 2023, witnessed a challenging year after a medical emergency struck him down last June. During a routine special teams meeting, he suffered a seizure leading to cardiac arrest, sidelining him for the season on the non-football illness list. He made a brief appearance in one game during his rookie season, tallying two tackles over 28 defensive snaps alongside 16 on special teams.
Upon clearing waivers, Thompson might continue his rehabilitation journey from the Chiefs’ injured reserve, offering him a potential pathway to recovery within the organization.
Blake Lynch, who saw limited action with the Chiefs last season, featured in only one game. In his single outing, he provided solid defensive coverage with 25 defensive snaps coupled with 22 special teams snaps, ending the match with six tackles. His professional tenure also includes stints with the Vikings and Chargers, amassing 29 games with seven starts.
The shake-up in the roster paves the way for the Chiefs to integrate 16 promising undrafted free agents, ushering in fresh talent across various positions. Among the notable signees are Elijhah Badger from Florida and Dalton Cooper from Oklahoma State, promising a dynamic infusion into the existing lineup.
