This year's Thanksgiving Day NFL schedule has a small tweak for fans to note. Roger Goodell, the NFL Commissioner, announced in a conversation with Pat McAfee that the game schedule will shift slightly to mirror the usual Sunday time slots.
Traditionally, the Detroit Lions' Thanksgiving game kicked off at 12:30 p.m. Eastern Time. However, Goodell revealed, "We’re probably going to move from a 12:30 Eastern kickoff back to 1. We’ll go back to the traditional windows, start at 1, roll right into Dallas, and then in prime time."
The revised schedule will see games starting at 1 p.m., 4:25 p.m., and concluding with a prime-time matchup at 8:15 p.m. Eastern. This aligns more closely with the typical Sunday NFL roster, providing fans with a more familiar game day structure.
According to Goodell, Detroit and Dallas have firmly cemented their spots as the traditional centers of Thanksgiving football. The commissioner emphasized that these teams' roles will remain unchanged, continuing their cultural tradition within the sport.
As with previous years, the league plans to feature one prominent game in the prime-time slot, adding to the holiday's anticipation and excitement for football enthusiasts across the nation.
