March Madness 2025: McNeese Student Manager Amir Khan Wins Hearts and NIL Deal with Viral Tunnel Celebration

The March Madness tournament had its fair share of surprises, but McNeese State University brought more to the court than just their basketball prowess. Amid a stunning first-round upset over Clemson, McNeese's student manager, Amir Khan, emerged as a viral sensation, capturing hearts and headlines alike.

Known affectionately as "Aura," Khan strutted out of the tunnel with McNeese players, a boombox in hand, jamming to Lud Foe’s "In & Out." His energy was infectious, and soon enough, the clip of Khan's rap became a social media hit.

His charisma didn't just spark joy among fans; it opened doors. Khan has made history by becoming the first student manager to secure a Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deal. Partnering with prominent brands like Buffalo Wild Wings, TickPick, and Insomnia Cookies, Khan is breaking new ground.

"Not only did I know the song, but it’s one of my favorites," Khan shared. "So I just started rapping, and the players encouraged me. It was just us having fun, but the camera captured the moment, and it’s taken off!"

His internet fame soared when Phillip Mitchell Jr., McNeese's social media director, posted the viral video, collecting almost 200,000 views. Reflecting the sentiment, Mitchell called it one of his all-time favorite filming moments.

At the game against Clemson in Providence, Rhode Island, Khan was a star in his own right, snapping selfies with fans and even inspiring McNeese cheerleaders to sport "Amir Khan" socks.

Among those cheering him on, McNeese guard DJ Richards Jr. applauded Khan's dedication: "Our managers deserve more recognition. They are there for us the entire year. Amir is finally getting his due credit, and it's awesome."

Assistant coach Reed Vial echoed this sentiment on social media, praising Khan's humility and pioneering spirit: "Amir, you're a trailblazer. A NIL deal pioneer among student managers. You deserve all of it and more."

As McNeese advances to the second round, Khan's journey from beloved manager to a rising star is a testament to his infectious spirit. A bright future awaits him if the Cowboys make it to the Sweet 16. Stay tuned!
