Kyrie Irving Commits to Mavs with a 3-Year, $119 Million Deal

All-Star guard Kyrie Irving is staying put in Dallas. Despite declining his $43 million player option, he has opted to sign a three-year, $119 million contract with the Mavericks as reported on Tuesday by ESPN.

This comes as Irving, now 33, faces the challenge of missing the entire 2025-26 NBA regular season due to a severe ACL injury sustained last March. Last season saw him post impressive numbers, averaging 24.7 points per game with a 40.1% shooting percentage from beyond the arc.

The Mavericks, who clinched the No. 1 pick in the upcoming NBA Draft, concluded the 2024-25 season ranked 10th in their conference. The spotlight is on Irving not just because of his past triumphs, including an NBA Championship with the Cavaliers in 2016 and leading the Mavs to the NBA Finals in 2024, but this new contract is a testament to his potential comeback from injury.

If Irving can bounce back to his peak performance, he will be pivotal in a Mavericks lineup featuring Anthony Davis at the helm. This marks another substantial offseason move for Dallas, following their re-signing of center Daniel Gafford on a similar three-year, $54 million commitment.

Irving's decision is the first among several veteran players, such as LeBron James and James Harden, who are contemplating their player options as the June 30 deadline approaches.
