Elgersma Goes Pro: Packers to Sign Canadian QB Star Taylor Elgersma

The Green Bay Packers are set to inject some northern talent into their quarterback lineup by signing Canadian quarterback Taylor Elgersma. Despite not being drafted last month, the University of Wilfrid Laurier standout caught the Packers’ eye during a promising tryout at their rookie minicamp last weekend, as reported by Dave Naylor from TSN.

Elgersma's imminent signing means that his scheduled appearance at the Buffalo Bills' rookie minicamp this weekend is now off the table. This comes after the Winnipeg Blue Bombers made a strategic move by selecting him in the second round of the 2025 Canadian Football League draft, making him the 18th overall pick.

Elgersma's prowess on the field is well-documented. He claimed this year’s prestigious Hec Crighton Trophy, an accolade awarded to the top football player in U Sports, following an impressive season where he led the Golden Hawks to the Vanier Cup. Despite their final loss to Laval, Elgersma's individual stats were staggering: over 4,252 passing yards, 35 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions across 13 games, not to mention his seven rushing touchdowns.

Not only does Elgersma bring skill and determination to the table, but he also brings history with him, as he became the first quarterback from a Canadian university to be invited to participate in the Senior Bowl, an achievement that speaks volumes of his caliber.

As Elgersma joins the Packers, he'll be looking to carve out his niche in a quarterback room led by Jordan Love, with Malik Willis currently serving as his backup. The new signing will see Elgersma compete fiercely with Sean Clifford for the crucial No. 3 quarterback slot.
