Bucks' Damian Lillard Undergoes Surgery to Repair Torn Achilles Tendon
The Milwaukee Bucks face a tough blow as star guard Damian Lillard underwent surgery on Friday to repair a torn Achilles tendon in his left leg, an injury sustained during Sunday's playoff clash against the Indiana Pacers.
The incident occurred midway through the first quarter, turning Game 4 of the Bucks’ first-round playoff series into a distressing spectacle as Lillard was assisted off the court in a 129-103 defeat.
The team confirmed the severity of the injury on Monday, ruling out Lillard, a cornerstone of their lineup, indefinitely. Lillard’s absence was sorely felt in Game 5 when the Bucks narrowly lost 119-118 in overtime, giving the Pacers a 4-1 series victory.
This injury is a cruel twist for the 34-year-old veteran who managed a remarkable comeback from deep vein thrombosis earlier in the season. This condition, which involves a blood clot in his right calf, kept him sidelined for the final 14 regular-season games. Cleared after being removed from blood thinners, Lillard resumed play in Game 2 of the series after missing Game 1.
Over the season, Lillard averaged 24.9 points, placing him 10th in the NBA scoring charts, and contributed 7.1 assists per game, earning his ninth All-Star Game nod.
Now, the Bucks must contemplate their future playoff aspirations without their star player. As Lillard recovers, the team faces the daunting task of reconfiguring their strategies in his absence.
